Conventional growers use pounds and pounds of pesticides and other chemicals when growing cotton and other wearable fibers. A single t-shirt requires about 1/3 pound of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers to produce. By choosing organic, you are helping to reduce the amount of chemicals produced, used and washed into our oceans across the globe. The Earth's benefit is clear. How do you benefit? These fibers are smoother, so they just feel better on the skin, and there is no risk of allergic reaction.
The use of other fibers like hemp, flax and bamboo is imperative because they are some of the fastest growing plants available for clothing fiber, and they don’t need pesticides. In order to develop a sustainable economy and provide a healthier standard of living for now and our future, we must work with these plants and develop agricultural methods that don't harm our environment.
Organic Cotton
6-10% of the earth's agriculture is cotton, yet conventionally grown cotton uses 25% of all the insecticides and 10% of the pesticides used in the world. Conventional farming devours roughly 1/3 pound of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers to produce enough cotton for a single t-shirt. These remain in the ground and are washed into our oceans. The plants themselves produce cotton with the chemicals in the fibers, which cause skin irritation for some consumers.
